THE NEW AIRCRAFT WILL SUPPORT OPERATIONS ON THREE NEW ROUTES TO MEMMINGEN, BASEL AND COPENHAGEN, AND WILL INCREASE FREQUENCY ON EIGHT EXISTING ROUTES
Wizz Air, Europe’s fastest growing and most environmentally sustainable airline globally*, is pleased to announce that the 4th aircraft joined its modern fleet in Iasi. Further supporting its Romanian operations, Wizz Air’s state-of-the-art Airbus A321neo aircraft will operate on three newly introduced routes, departing to the European cities of Memmingen (Germany), Basel-Mulhouse (Switzerland), and Copenhagen (Denmark). To mark the occasion, Wizz Air welcomed today at the airport the arrival of the new aircraft, which operated one of the nine routes that saw an increase in frequency from December as well. Together with these new and existing routes, Wizz Air now offers 22 low fare services connecting Iasi International Airport to various destinations across the continent. Tickets are already available online on wizzair.com and through the mobile app.
With its fourth aircraft at the base and the new routes added to the Romanian network, Wizz Air consolidates its leading position in the market as the largest airline operating from Iasi and its commitment to regional airports. These efforts restate the airline’s commitment to offering popular destinations and ultra-low fares to as many passengers as possible, in the most sustainable way. People can now travel from Iasi to Memmingen on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, starting December 12th. Additionally, flights to the EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg and to Copenhagen will both depart from Iasi every Tuesday and Saturday, from December 13th.
Wizz Air continues to expand its operations throughout the network, as it adds more aircraft to its modern and sustainable fleet, with an average age of just 4.6 years. With routes that will take passengers all over Europe, Romanians will be able to travel sustainably through these new low-fare Wizz Air services to exciting city centres in Europe, as well as to beautiful holiday destinations. In addition to these markets, Wizz Air also increases the frequency of the most desired customer destinations from Iasi, such as: Paris Beauvais (France), Milan Bergamo, Venice, Rome Ciampino (Italy), Brussels Charleroi (Belgium), Barcelona (Spain), Eindhoven (the Netherlands), Tel-Aviv (Israel), London Luton (the UK).
As it is expanding its network and offering new destinations, Wizz Air is also continuously recruiting throughout its bases in Romania, having hired over 300 flight attendants in our country this year alone. Two new recruitment events are scheduled for the Iasi base in January, on the 11th and 20th, with many more to be announced.
Alexandra Avădanei, Revenue Officer at Wizz Air, said: “We remain committed to the Romanian market, including to the regional airports, and we are excited to offer customers the best travel options from Iasi at ultra-low-cost fares. Already started this December, operations with the new aircraft allocated to our base in Iasi will bring Wizz Air’s network from the city to 22 routes. These additions mark an important milestone for the Romanian network and confirm our growth strategy. We look forward to welcoming Romanians on board our new Airbus A321neo travelling from Iasi to Memmingen, Basel and Copenhagen!”
Costel Alexe, President of the Iași County Council, said: “We are strengthening the partnership with Wizz Air, and today we have one of the company’s operational bases in Iasi and direct connections with European metropolises and capitals. The newly inaugurated routes to Memmingen (Germany), Basel-Mulhouse (Switzerland) and Copenhagen (Denmark) open numerous development perspectives for both the company and the airport, as well as for passengers. Iasi Airport is an aerial highway for Moldova, it is our communication gateway with Europe, and the diversification of partnerships with air operators helps us to offer Iasi people and Moldovans more travel opportunities, which will also mean a boost for the business environment. We will continue to invest in the development of the airport and strengthen its position as a pillar of regional development, and in this process, we will prioritize the relationship with air operators, in the interest of our community.”
Romeo Vatră, General Director of Iasi International Airprot, said: “We are very happy with this new step taken in strengthening the partnership with Wizz Air, the company with the largest number of routes operated at Iasi Airport, 22 in number. The expansion of the Wizz Air base, by allocating the fourth aircraft, comes as a natural result of the open dialogue we have with the airline, but also as a confirmation of the trust it invests here, because the air base represents, in fact, the basis of a business that can only prosper where there is potential. And we have demonstrated in all these last 8 years since the inauguration of the Wizz base in Iasi, that together we can build valuable projects for the community. By launching the three long-awaited new destinations, to Basel, Memmingen and Copenhagen, we manage to have a balanced distribution of routes throughout Europe, and I am absolutely convinced that Wizz Air's plans at Iasi Airport will continue, especially in the context of the expansion of the infrastructure at which we are currently working. More destinations mean diversity and, therefore, increased mobility that ensures the long-term development of the airport. Thank you to Wizz Air for this reliable partnership, congratulations for your perseverance in achieving your goals.”
