Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, today announced two new routes from Budapest to the islands of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. The new services will commence on 30 October and 2 November, respectively, with fares starting as low as HUF 14,990*.
The airline started operating flights from Budapest to Tenerife at the end of 2015 and is now adding two more large islands in the Canaries, renowned for their sandy beaches, lush volcanic landscape and year round warm weather to its Budapest network.
Since its first flight in 2004, Wizz Air has constantly expanded its operations in Hungary. The airline currently operates two Hungarian bases in Budapest and Debrecen with a total of 11 aircraft in the country, employing more than 1,000 people in flight crew, cabin crew, office and supporting functions. In 2015, Wizz Air carried 2.9 million passengers on its low-fare Budapest routes, supporting over 2,000 local indirect jobs. This year the airline has grown its seat capacity by 27% versus 2015 translating into over four million seats on Budapest routes. With today’s announcement, Wizz Air has a total of ten new routes from Budapest in 2016, including such attractive destinations like Nice, Baden-Baden, Reykjavik, Baku, Liverpool, Ibiza, Bucharest and Sofia.
With its newest Canary services, Wizz Air now offers a total of 57 routes to 23 countries from two Hungarian bases: Budapest and Debrecen. Seats on the new routes are already on sale and can be booked on wizzair.com.
