PASSENGERS SHOULD NOT BE DISRUPTED BY LACK OF ILS IN MODLIN
Following weeks of continual distruption at Warsaw Modlin Airport, Wizz Air, the largest low-cost, low-fare airline in Central and Eastern Europe, today has taken the unprecedented decision to move all its Christmas operations from midnight 17th December until midnight 8th January from Modlin Airport (WMI) to Warsaw Chopin (WAW). This will assure normal winter operations over the Christmas peak travel period for over 55,000 passengers who otherwise would be subject to Modlin Airport’s lack of ILS infrastructure and massive flight disruptions and cancellations.
Wizz Air is contacting all passengers with Warsaw Christmas bookings to announce the essential move of these flights and passengers should check in at Warsaw Chopin Airport at least 2 hours before the scheduled departure time. The move of all 358 flights from Modlin to Warsaw Chopin became necessary after Modlin Airport was again closed the whole day on 16 December and the the morning of 17 December due to the airports failure to deliver on the timely installation of the ILS to assure smooth and reliable winter operations. Wizz Air will now ask Modlin Airport to cover the costs of this necessary move and all prior diversions and disruptions caused.

Passenger convenience is a priority at Wizz Air and the temporary move of Wizz Air’s flights to Chopin will assure thousands of families to be together for Christmas without risking the almost daily flight disruptions and cancelations due to lacking navigational equipment at Modlin Airport. The necessary move of over 350 flights to Warsaw’s main airport between now and 6th January are the direct result of the lack of an ILS system at Modlin and we urge the airport to take responsibility for this shortcoming.”
