Tick off your destination cities from Turkey and enjoy your holiday with amazing offers by WIZZ!

It is a common misconception, but Istanbul is not the capital of Turkey, even though it is the most touristic place in the country. Without a doubt, this unique city that connects Europe and Asia is surely worth a visit. Its rich history, the diverse culture, and unique and delicious street food makes Istanbul one of the most popular tourist destinations. Discover the most famous sights of this exciting city.

Visit the spectacular Hagia Sophia

Hagia Sophia is not only a mosque and major cultural and historical site but it is without a doubt the most well-known and best preserved example of Byzantine architecture. Its huge domes that look like they are hanging in the air, the ancient Byzantine mosaics and marble interior make this sight one of the wonders of architecture. Don't miss the most famous part: the upper section with the galleries.

Stroll around the grandiose Topkapı Palace

The famous Topkapı Palace was used as the residence of the Ottoman Sultans from 1465 until 1844. Today – as one of the largest palace-museums in the world – it exhibits a fascinating collection of treasures of the Ottoman Empire, such as robes, porcelains, miniatures, calligraphic manuscripts, jewellery, and maintains important book and manuscript collections in its library. Soak up the history, and enjoy the views and the architecture of this spectacular place.

Explore the colourful Grand Bazaar

The Grand Bazaar is one of the oldest, largest covered markets in the world – and definitely the most famous shopping destination with its 30,700 m2 area. It is located in the Sultanahmet area, near the historic centre of the city and its most iconic monuments. If you are looking for souvenirs, it’s the perfect place because you can find almost everything you need – from food to clothes, rugs and accessories. Don’t forget to keep the art of bargaining alive when shopping here.

Admire the beauty of the Blue Mosque

As its name suggests, the Blue Mosque is famous for its blue ceramic tiles. Blue is a dominant colour in the building, for sure, but Blue Mosque is not as blue as you might expect. Nevertheless, it is extremely beautiful. The visiting hours are from 9 am to 6 pm, 7 days a week but non-worshiping visitors may not enter during prayer sessions.

Enjoy the city of cat-lovers

If you visit the city, you may notice that there will be cats at every street corner. They live in harmony with the local people, and they are somewhat the symbol of Istanbul.

Weather in Istanbul

The weather in Istanbul can be unpredictable, with hot summer days and freezing winter nights. Its climate is transitional Mediterranean, meaning that it has quite cold winters, but otherwise it has Mediterranean characteristics: in autumn and winter there are days you might need an umbrella, but summer is pretty hot and sunny.

Ankara is Turkey's capital, and its second city in size after Istanbul. It is a perfect mix of contemporary and ancient, and it offers a lot more than the governmental buildings. The many parks and green areas are adding to its charms, and thanks to the rich cultural heritage, the city doesn't fall short on sightseeing. Travellers can choose from plenty of exciting museums and outdoor activities.

Take a deep dive in Turkish history

Anıtkabir is an important historical site in Ankara. It's the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who was the leader of the Turkish War of Independence and the founder and the first President of the Turkish Republic. It is a wow experience to see the artefacts, books, and his personal collection. The colossal building is also significant architecturally because its design is a great example of the Turkish style.

The Museum of Anatolian Civilizations  offers a rich and varied collection of cultural artefacts from various eras and civilizations, enshrined in a building that was constructed especially to house them. Hittite artefacts are particularly special, but there are so many highlights to this museum. If you like ancient history, this is a definite must see. The museum is one of the few ones in the world with wonderful and unique collections, and its artefacts are exhibited in chronologically separated sections.

Ankara Castle - or Ankara Kalesi -  is an ancient fortification in the city that was constructed around the 7th century. This makes it one of Ankara’s oldest sights and a beautiful destination for visitors with its historical and cultural background.

The dynamic city of Ankara is definitely worth a visit because old castles and ruins from Hittite, Phrygian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman civilizations are waiting for you there.

Weather in Ankara

From March to September is the most popular time to visit Ankara, because the days are pleasant and warm, and the sun shines bright. The area's colder weather lasts only for a couple of months, from December to January, before warm temperatures take hold again.

Antalya isn’t more than just a city – it’s a region along most of Turkey's Mediterranean coast that is quickly becoming everyone’s favourite summer destination. Its seaside location is perfect for a reéaxing beach holiday, a romantic getaway or a family adventure. This beautiful city is a perfect combination for all types of travellers with its clear blue waters, historical old town and Roman-era treasures.

Soak up the sun at the breathtaking beaches

The beaches in Antalya are a major highlight amongst travellers coming and continue to provide a perfect holiday. Spend your lazy beach days here and enjoy the plenty of restaurants and facilities as well.
To the west of the city centre lies the Konyaalti Beach, which stretches down to the coastline behind the picturesque backdrop of the mountains. To the south of Antalya's centre, you can find Lara beach that is popular for its soft white sand and its family-friendly atmosphere. Take a dip in the turquoise water, and enjoy the sun and the spectacular landscapes.

Explore Kaleiçi, the Old Town of Antalya

Kaleiçi, the historical centre of Turkey, has become one of Antalya’s most beautiful and unique places. Kaleiçi is not so huge but it is filled with spectacular historic sites and must-see attractions.

Hadrian's Gate, the triumphal arch in Antalya is a historical site not to be missed. It was erected for Hadrianus the Roman emperor's visit to the city in AD 130, being the only remaining entrance gate on the walls surrounding the city and the harbour.

Make sure you don’t miss the spectacular Tekeli Mehmet Paşa Cami, the Ottoman mosque that was built in the 17th century. The religious monument has six smaller supporting domes and a large central dome that covers the prayer hall.

Once you’ve visited all the sights, make sure to take time to wander the narrow cobblestoned streets to get your heart captured by the beautiful Ottoman-era houses.

Weather in Antalya

The city is situated on the mountainous coast of the Mediterranean Sea. We have good news for those who are addicted to sunshine. In Antalya, the summers are always hot and sunny with 12 hours of sunshine per day. Sounds perfect, right?

There are places that are so beautiful that they remain in the heart forever, like Dalaman and its area on the southwestern coast of Turkey. Every corner of the district hides breathtaking natural wonders, amazing beaches and must-see sights.

Swim across the Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon is a quiet and peaceful place, and one of the most photographed gems in Dalaman. The waters have the breathtaking shades of turquoise and azure, and are very calm. The only thing you need to do is to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere and the sun on the sandy beaches.

Visit the ancient cliffside tombs

Carved into the cliffs of Southwest Turkey, the unique Lycian tombs across the river of Dalyan are dating back to BC. One thing is for sure, these mysterious sites are definitely a must-see in the Dalaman region.

Try the relaxing mud bath in Dalyan

A soak in the popular mud bath is not only a really good stress-relief but it is a unique experience that can be incorporated into your skincare routine, if you like.

Weather in Dalaman

Don't forget your sunglasses at home because the region has 320 days of sunshine per year. Spring and autumn is a great time to visit Dalaman because of the warm weather without the temperatures rising too high. But let's be honest, with so much sunlight, Dalaman is a perfect destination at any time of the year.
