Wizz Air, EMEA’s most environmentally sustainable airline*, today celebrates a historic milestone: 20 million passengers at Rome Fiumicino Airport. For the occasion, only today a special promotion is available to the Roman travellers with 20% off selected flights from and to Rome Fiumicino between 1 February and 11 April inclusive. This extraordinary achievement reflects the airline's ongoing commitment to connecting Rome with strategic destinations across Europe and beyond, offering affordable and accessible flights to millions of travelers.
In 2024, Wizz Air operated a total of 300,000 flights, including over 90,000 in Italy and more than 30,000 departing from Fiumicino. At this airport, the airline experienced a 38% growth compared to 2023, exceeding 6.5 million passengers. Nationally, the airline recorded a 15% increase, reaching over 18.5 million passengers in Italy. Serving nearly 90 destinations, Wizz Air has strengthened its position as a key player in the Italian market, contributing to the country’s economic and social development.
Rome represents Wizz Air's largest base in Italy, and the airline has recently opened a new Training Center for its 7000+ crew in the vicinity of the Rome Fiumicino airport, operational since October 1st 2024.
Roman travelers form a significant portion of Wizz Air’s customer base. Popular destinations include London, Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, and Valencia, which remain favorite spots for both leisure and business travel. These connections further solidify the airline’s role as a reference point for the Roman travelers. Additionally, starting from the end of March, Wizz Air will add a new service from Rome to Bilbao and will introduce a unique direct connection from Rome to Zaragoza.
Wizz Air’s employment impact is equally significant. In Rome, the airline has created over 600 direct jobs, cementing its position as a key contributor to the local economy.
Furthermore, sustainability remains a cornerstone of the airline’s strategy. Wizz Air has invested heavily in a modern, low-emission fleet, featuring a full Airbus A321neo aircraft fleet in Italy. This ensures greater fuel efficiency and a reduced environmental footprint, demonstrating the airline’s commitment to responsible and sustainable growth.
The celebration of the 20 millionth passenger was marked by a special ceremony at Fiumicino Airport before the flight to Vienna. During the event, the passengers of the flight were welcomed with dedicated festivities and the lucky 20 millionth passenger was presented with a value voucher.
