Wizz Air, one of Europe’s fastest growing airlines, and the leading low cost carrier in Central and Eastern Europe, was named The Best Low-Cost Carrier of the Year in 2019. The award was handed over at the Aviation Industry Awards Europe gala, part of Air Convention Europe 2019 in Vilnius on 17 September. The award is among the most important and prestigious prizes in the aviation industry. Over 150,000 people cast their votes for commercial airlines in the world. Wizz Air's excellent performance was recognised by awarding the airline with the Best Low-Cost Carrier of the Year prize.
In the past twelve months over 37 million passengers travelled with Wizz Air on its low-fare and high quality services, covering 151 destinations in 44 countries, which represents a 16% growth year on year. Wizz Air is dedicated to offering high quality services to all of its passengers from the moment of booking until the end of their trips. The airline continuously works on developing easy-to-use online solutions which make the passenger journey more pleasant.
The airline operates one of the youngest fleets in Europe which currently consists of 119 aircraft, with the average age of 4.7 years. As a result, Wizz Air is the greenest airline in Europe, reporting with only 57.7 grams CO2 emissions per passenger per kilometre in August 2019. The company currently has a total of 271 Airbus A321neo, Airbus A321neo and Airbus A321XLR aircraft on order. With the new aircraft, the airline will continue to drive efficiency parallel to further decreasing its environmental footprint by 1/3 for every passenger over the next decade. The Airbus A321neo, six of which are already in operation at WIZZ, incorporates the latest technologies in aviation. It offers a 50 percent reduction in noise footprint, a 20 percent reduction in fuel consumption, while also reducing nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 50 percent.
