Wizz Air, one of the fastest growing airlines in Europe and the leading low-cost carrier in CEE, today celebrates the first six months of operations in the Austrian capital. Over the past six months, Wizz Air has welcomed more than 183,000 passengers to and from Austria.
Wizz Air's rapid growth enables its customers to choose from a wide range of low-cost flights. This makes WIZZ a pioneer for a new era of travel in Austria, offering unique destinations at low fares, wide selection of services to ensure a customized approach and an easy-to-use online booking system. The WIZZ network from Vienna is constantly being expanded and currently offers its Austrian customers flights to 32 destinations in 22 countries, with fares starting at as low as € 14.99 *. In total, Wizz Air has more than 2.1 million seats on sale in 2019.
Boosting domestic economy
The WIZZ base, opened in June 2018, represents a major investment by Wizz Air in Austria and will create more than 200 direct jobs with the airline by 2019. Currently more than 35 people are already employed at Wizz Air; this number will increase to 120 by the end of November. Wizz Air local operations stimulate further the associated industries and local job market by supporting around 1,500 jobs** in the greater Vienna area. With a total investment of $570 million***, WIZZ will continue to expand its operations at Vienna International Airport in the coming months resulting in a local fleet of five brand new Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft by February 2019.
"We are very delighted to celebrate today yet another milestone in the success story of Wizz Air in Austria. Since the start of our operations in April and the base opening in June, we have been able to grow continuously and already welcomed over 180 thousand passengers on our Vienna routes. We will continue to ensure that our Austrian customers can access the most exciting destinations at the lowest fares while our dedicated crew will ensure an excellent travel experience for each passenger traveling with WIZZ on board one of our soon to be five new Vienna-based Airbus aircraft," said Tamara Vallois, Wizz Air's Head of Communications.
