Wizz Air, one of the fastest growing airlines in Europe and the leading low cost carrier in Central and Eastern Europe, reached a remarkable milestone at Memmingen Airport as it celebrated 2 million carried passengers on its low fare routes. To mark this significant event, one lucky passenger, a WIZZ travel enthusiast travelling from Sibiu to Memmingen was greeted with a WIZZ value voucher.
The first WIZZ flight took off from Memmingen in 2009 and since then the airline has continuously increased its network, offering now a total of 16 routes to 11 countries from Memmingen. With more than 700,000 seats on sale from Memmingen in 2018, WIZZ’s seat capacity has increased with 27% year on year.
Further diversifying the low fare network from Germany, WIZZ is inaugurating in total 17 new services this year with fares as low EUR 9.99*, including the new routes that have commenced this summer to Pristina, Kyiv, Tuzla, Katowice, Sibiu and Iasi. With these new routes 4.68 million seats are on sale on WIZZ’s German routes, which supports Wizz Air’s continuous expansion in Germany and further contributes to the country’s economy and stimulates the job market in aviation services and tourism sectors, by supporting over 2,500 jobs per year**.
Wizz Air continues to bring ever more people into the world of flying by further stimulating the market with its low fares and creating new travel opportunities. In just 14 years after the start of operations, over 155 million passengers have traveled with WIZZ across Europe and beyond. This month the airline’s fleet has grown to 104 aircraft as it continues to expand its network of now more than 600 routes, with over 125 routes commencing in 2018.
Andras Rado, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air, said: “We are thrilled to celebrate a great milestone together with our German customers as we have carried 2 million passengers on our Memmingen routes. In the past 9 years, we have offered our passengers new opportunities to discover 16 cities across Europe from Memmingen and 87 in total from 11 airports in Germany, providing genuinely low fares and creating great customer experience. We thank each of our loyal German customers for choosing WIZZ and we are looking to welcome on board even more passengers.”
