Wizz Air, Bulgaria’s largest airline and the largest low cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, today celebrates the 1 anniversary of its Varna base, as well as the milestone of having carried over 1 million passengers from and to Varna.
WIZZ’s Varna base represents an investment of more than USD 100 million* in the city, with more than 40 direct jobs already created with the airline. Currently, Wizz Air’s Varna network includes 9 routes to 8 countries, with 29 weekly flights including the newest service inaugurated in April 2018 to Vienna. The airline is bringing new travel opportunities in the region, with more than 460,000 seats on sale in 2018 on flights to and from Varna, which represents nearly 40% growth compared to 2017. The growth of Wizz Air’s Varna base, bringing ever more passengers to Varna, also means more customers for the city’s tourism, hospitality and aviation related industries.
Wizz Air started its operations in Bulgaria 13 years ago and since then, has continuously invested in its ever-growing network. WIZZ, Bulgaria’s leading airline has 8 based aircraft in the country, one in Varna and seven in Sofia. Since the first WIZZ flight from Bulgaria in 2005, over 12 million passengers have travelled on 44 routes to 20 countries. The airline has launched 5 new destinations from Bulgaria in 2018 including Malaga, Athens, Lisbon, Nice and Vienna.
