Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, and Romania’s largest airline today celebrates the major milestone of carrying six million passengers on its low fare Cluj-Napoca routes.
Since its first flight from Cluj-Napoca in November 2007, Wizz Air has constantly expanded its operations in the region. The company currently employs almost 200 pilots and cabin crew at its Cluj-Napoca base and operates four modern A320 aircraft, with a fifth one to join the Cluj fleet this month. Also, this month WIZZ is commencing five new services that include one domestic route connecting Cluj-Napoca with Bucharest which will begin a new era of domestic Romanian air travel.
WIZZ’s first Romanian flight took off from Bucharest in January 2007 and since then, Wizz Air has continuously increased its network of low-fare routes for its Romanian customers. Already the largest airline in Romania, Wizz Air will grow its fleet to 20 aircraft in the country by the end of 2016, including the ultra-efficient brand new 230-seat Airbus A321. Wizz Air offers a total of 118 low-fare routes to 16 countries from nine Romanian airports, with fares on many routes starting at RON 39**, providing affordable access between Romania and the rest of Europe for both business and leisure travelers. Over 600 Wizz Air colleagues in Romania look forward to welcoming ever more passengers on board WIZZ’s Romanian flights, which this year will support more than 3,300 jobs in associated industries throughout Romania***.
Owain Jones, Chief Corporate Officer of Wizz Air said: “Only a day ago we celebrated carrying 25 million passengers on our Romanian routes and I am delighted today to be welcoming our six millionth passenger in Cluj-Napoca. Today’s milestone underlines Wizz Air’s commitment not only to Romania, but to Cluj-Napoca and the opportunities for low fare air travel that Wizz Air continues to bring to its Romanian customers – including, soon, a new era in domestic Romanian air travel as we link Cluj-Napoca with Bucharest with prices starting from RON 39**. Since the very first WIZZ flight in Romania in 2007, WIZZ has democratized air travel as well as continuously developed low-fare network in Romanian regions. I am very pleased to see growing tourism figures in Cluj and Transylvania as well as our expanding base with the fifth aircraft arriving to the Cluj fleet in a few weeks’ time representing an investment of additional €98 million*. As Romania’s largest airline we strive to continue offering the lowest fares paired with outstanding on board service and our local crew looks forward to welcoming you onboard with a smile.”
