OPTIMIZED POLISH LOW FARES ROUTE NETWORK PRESENTED
Wizz Air, the largest low-cost, low-fare airline in Central and Eastern Europe, presented its optimized Polish route network at a press conference in Gdansk, with more routes to Scandinavia and to summer sun destinations. Wizz Air announced that from 15 May it will operate its 7th Gdansk route to Norway, commencing a new service with two weekly flights to Kristiansand, with fares starting from just PLN 125.
Wizz Air confirmed it will discontinue less popular services to Cork in Ireland, to reflect weakening demand on routes formerly used by immigrant workers, after immigration between Poland and Ireland is now down by 40% over its peak in 2007. The airline presented its customer oriented route network optimization for Polish passengers, announcing two more Polish routes from Katowice to Larnaca and Naples. At a time when the Polish Institute of Tourism forecasts a strong growth of Poles travelling abroad, Wizz Air has announced new Polish routes to leisure destinations like Georgia, Larnaca and Naples, and it confirmed that new routes from Poland to Egypt and Israel may be announced later in the year. During the press conference Wizz Air expressed its satisfaction with the performance of its Gdansk operation. Recently a fourth aircraft had been announced to grow traffic at Gdansk to over 1.2m million passengers per year, capitalizing on the growing demand for Wizz Air’s low fares.

Speaking today in Gdansk, Daniel de Carvalho, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air, said: “We are pleased today to deliver more good news for Polish consumers in Gdansk and Katowice. Demand on routes to the bustling Scandinavian economies has grown and we today unveil a new Gdansk route to Kristiansand in Norway. At the same time we announce further leisure routes from Katowice to Naples and Larnaca. The drop in immigration between Poland and Ireland and our subsequent drop of the Polish Cork routes has freed capacity to serve destinations that are more in line with the current market demand, and Wizz Air’s low fares on these new routes are set to further stimulate Polish air travel. We expect our traffic on the new Gdansk route to Kristiansand to be approximately 30,000 passengers in the first year and the combined traffic on the two Katowice routes to Naples and Larnaca will be in excess of 30,000 passengers. These routes are up for sale from today on wizzair.com and we urge passengers to snap up the lowest fares available by booking today.”
* Passengers with bookings on discontinued routes will be contacted and offered a full refund.
