Why Visit Kazakhstan? It is the largest central Asian state, sharing borders with Russia, China, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, and it acts as a good starting point for travellers looking to explore these regions. Due to its sheer size, the country has vast stretches of land untouched by human development. The two main cities, Astana (the capital) and Almaty offer a wealth of sights and sounds, brimming with culture.
Must-sees in KazakhstanThanks to the country’s oil trade, the capital city, Astana, is becoming increasingly futuristic in its architecture. One building, the Baiterek Tower, has been playfully nicknamed ‘Chupa Chups’ due to its likeness of a giant lollipop. In Almaty, there are popular ski and hiking resorts. Outside of the cities, the UNESCO World Heritage listed Silk Road takes visitors back through time.
Space ExplorationIt has evaded common knowledge that Kazakhstan boasts the largest space station in the world. The Baikonur Cosmodrome saw the launch of Sputnik 1 in 1957, the first satellite, kicking off the space age, and is a great place to visit.
