Wizz Air celebrates its fourth anniversary

Wizz Air, the largest low cost - low fare airline based in Central and Eastern Europe is celebrating its fourth anniversary on 19 May 2008. Four years ago the first Wizz Air flight took off from Katowice International Airport in Poland and since then Wizz Air has become the leading low fare airline in Central and Eastern Europe. Up to date over 12 million passengers have enjoyed Wizz Air’s services.

In 2007 Wizz Air carried 4.2 million passengers, 40% more than in the previous year. Earlier this year two new operating bases were added to Wizz Air’s map making Poznan (Poland) and Cluj (Romania) the airline’s seventh and eighth bases following Katowice, Budapest, Warsaw, Gdansk, Sofia and Bucharest. Currently Wizz Air is serving 51 destinations on over 100 routes. The carrier is well on track to fly more than 6 million passengers in 2008.

Wizz Air operates a fleet of modern Airbus A320 aircraft with an average age of 3 years, one of the youngest in the world. Thanks to Wizz Air’s purchase agreements with Airbus the airline’s fleet consists of 19 Airbus A320 aircraft this summer and will grow up to 82 aircraft in 2014.

József Váradi, Chief Executive Officer said: “Wizz Air continues to win the hearts and minds of millions of passengers travelling in Europe. I am proud that the Company’s fast pace of growth has been achived by maintaining high quality service standards recognized by our customers not only on board but by a number of awards that we have received this year. Wizz Air is well positioned to become the single largest airline of all in Central and Eastern Europe in the near term."
